Our Process for Dealing With Fire Damage
When your home has fire damage, it’s important not to enter the home or property. It can be dangerous and it’s best to allow the professionals to look around the property before you enter.
Usually, a licensed authority will have to give a contractor or a restoration team the go-ahead before they can start entering the home.
Once our team has been given the go-ahead, we will start our restoration process which looks like this:
Assessing the Damage
We will first need to take a look at the damage. This includes checking how far the flames entered the house. We will also look for water damage. Usually, water damage comes with fire damage because of the way the fire is extinguished by the fire department.
We will also determine how long the cleanup process will take. All items that you want restored will be removed from the house and taken to a separate facility. We will then let you know which contents can be restored and which ones, if any, will not be able to.
After we have assessed the damage, we will be able to give you a price estimate as well as give you a timeline of how long the project will take.
Once we have the assessment, we will secure the property and begin removing all the debris from the property.
We will also seal off the areas not affected by the fire so that the clean areas do not become contaminated by soot or other debris that might have been left behind from the fire.
Since there will be water from where the fire was put out, we will need to first extract all the water out of the home. We use special suction tools, vacuum cleaners, and dehumidifiers to ensure all the water is removed.
We also need to ensure the property is well dried out so that mold does not have a chance to grow. We will also put tarps over the roof if there are any holes so that weather and rain do not affect the water removal process.
The cleaning process and the smoke removal is the longest and hardest part of the job. It will take a lot of manual labor from our team but we always ensure we have enough professionals around to get the job done well but also as quickly as possible.
Soot and smoke take a long time to clean. It will also need to be cleaned from both the exterior and the interior. Every part of the home will need to be cleaned so that no smoke odor is left behind.
We use special deodorizing agents to ensure that your home no longer smells like smoke. This ensures the home is safe for you and your family to move back into.
If we also did water removal, we will add antimicrobial chemicals at this stage so that mold growth is inhibited.
To further ensure we remove all soot and smoke, we will also spend time cleaning the ducts in the home as this is a common place for soot to settle.
Restoration and Construction
This is the final step in the restoration process and one of the most important. Some areas of the home will only need repairs, while other parts of the home will need to be rebuilt from the ground up.
During our initial assessment, we will be able to tell you which parts of the home need repairs and which ones will be torn down and rebuilt.
Once everything has been removed and then replaced, we can begin work on the roof. After the structure and roof are complete, we will work on the plumbing and electrical systems.
Now is also the time to fix the pain and flooring materials. Usually, your insurance will require you to choose materials and styles similar to the ones you had in the home before the fire. We will work with you to ensure you get designs you like that also meet the requirements of the insurance.
